TKKMOTTM UNIFORM CODE

Tuia te Matangi is a kura that has a uniform code that we take pride and care in. It is a part of who we are and what we represent, therefore the dress standards we strive to uphold are high.

Over a three-year period, we surveyed our potential whānau and tamariki as to colours, garments, other important factors when attending kura. We received feedback such as, warmth, durability, immaculate presentation such as formal uniform, purple, greens, comfortability, something that reflected this region, and the list goes on. After much discussion, it was agreed that the representative colours for Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Tuia te Matangi, would be purple, black, silver, and white. This colour palette was sourced, researched and chosen for several reasons; purple was about the universal relationship with royalty, and the potential of being anything ākonga chose to be – ‘Kore au e ngaro, he kākano i ruia mai i Rangiātea’. It also features in Te whare a Pāua, which is a food source for Te Tau Ihu o te Waka a Māui. In the same breath, that our ākonga may be a source of sustenance and nurturing for our people. Black, silver and white are foundational colours, each with its own mana that beautifies and embellishes the kura.

Uniform | Representation & Standards

As our children wear the kura uniform, we, and they, take on a role of representation for Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Tuia te Matangi. ‘When our tāne care for the paetapū, and our wāhine stand charged to call, we adorn them, not just in the physical cloak of their whakapapa, but in the knowledge that they are we, and we are them’.

TKKM o Tuia te Matangi works with local businesses and The Warehouse Schooltex as suppliers for our uniform. Please talk with the Kaihautū Tari to place an order for uniform garments.
